Benefits of Performing Arts Education

Being involved in performing arts encourages confidence, collaboration, social skills, leadership, imagination, emotional intelligence, empathy, academic achievement, and self-expression.

The confidence that grows when children perform translates to every aspect of their lives, from educational accomplishments to social ease.

The performing arts encourage collaboration among students. They learn to focus on how their own individual performance can enhance the ensemble production.  Children also learn social and leadership skills, working in groups and using their experience to assist others.  Ensembles teach kids that every person has special talents to contribute, and that together they can create amazing productions.

Acting, specifically, also enables children to see the world through the eyes of someone who may be different than themselves. This fosters kindness, thoughtfulness, and nonjudgmental attitudes, encouraging participants to form empathy and connections with people from all walks of life.

Children in the performing arts also develop the ability to express themselves and their emotions in a healthy, controlled way. They develop their own distinct voice!

On top of all this, studies have shown that the performing arts curriculum has a positive effect on academic achievement.  Participants develop perseverance, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to focus, all of which lead to classroom success. Additionally, children use reading comprehension skills and practice core mathematical concepts as they memorize lines and learn to read music and understand music theory.

Above all, involvement in the performing arts gives children the opportunity to develop priceless life skills!! The abilities to express themselves, to feel confident, to understand others, to collaborate, to succeed in school, and to imagine possibilities will allow them to shine throughout their lives!
